Spring Sports Predictions: NBA Playoffs & NFL Draft Insights

·       As MLB is poised to start, it will be intriguing to me. I am curious to see what, if any, move the NY Yankees make to replace Garritt Cole.    Without a front line addition, it is hard to envision a return for the Yankees to the World Series.    Framber Valdez be added for a prospect dump from NY?  Dana Brown is retooling and revamping this franchise, and Valdez will be a free agent after this season.

·       What will the Philadelphia 76ers do this off-season? The process failed, but what roads will they take to rebuild, and who will lose their jobs?

·       It will be great to have MLB back this week but remember to be patient. You can’t take it too seriously for at least the first month. Remember, the Astros started 12-24 last year, made the playoffs, and won their division.

Someone will need to explain the reason for the NBA’s back-to-back games. I can’t think of a valid one.

·       I hope ESPN focuses on daily programming soon. This should happen once ESPN purchases the NFL Network sooner rather than later.   With so many options available via the Podcast and NFL Sirius channel, the fans would appreciate new shows.

Maybe one-hour or two-hour football shows would provide a fresh feel. This would be better than the same panel regurgitating football news over a three-hour slot. Adding some new shows can bring fans back to the network.  The NFL Network has been historically weak with programming by replaying various season games. ESPN can change that if it wants to. Will it? I am not betting on it.

·       I feel that NFL free agency is done for now. This will last until 48 hours before the draft. That’s when teams act differently. They say, “well, we can offer you this now.” However, after the draft, there might not be a spot. Some will hold out, but I expect one-year prove-it deals to pick up two or three days before the draft. Check out the top remaining players; there is some talent still sitting out there.

UFL starts this weekend. You never know who the next breakout star will be to make it to the NFL.

Well, that’s all for now. Enjoy MLB being back. NBA and NHL playoffs are also exciting. Get ready for the ratings darling of the NFL Draft in a few weeks.
