Quarterback Match Making
The quarterback is the most critical position in all sports. There are only 32 starting jobs in the country. Here is a little matching-making for some of the top quarterbacks on the market.
1. Kirk Cousins lands with the Cleveland Browns
Cleveland needs an adult at quarterback, and Cousins will be that man once Atlanta parts ways with him. Cousins has a history with HC Stefanski. He should bring stability to the position. They will work to develop a quarterback behind him, likely a second-round pick. Adding Cousins will make the most sense. It also removes the Sanders headache. This move likely allows a trade with the Giants for extra picks.
2. Russell Wilson to Carolina Panthers
Andy Dalton moves on, and the Panthers need a seasoned veteran who can be a spot starter on short notice. Wilson is at the crossroads of his career. If he wants his career to continue, he will have to take the role of a spot starter. He also needs to be a veteran bridge player.
3. Sam Darnold signs with the Raiders (see above)
4. Trey Lance resigns with the Dallas Cowboys
The market will be small for Lance. He showed some potential in the last game of the year. Dallas is his best opportunity to advance his skills. A two-year deal to move to the number two spot makes sense for both parties.
5. Jacoby Bissett to the NY Giants
New York will likely add a QB draft pick in April with the top pick. Bissett is the perfect journeyman to start the first half of the season. Meanwhile, the draft pick sits and learns initially.
6. Marcus Mariota resigns in Washington
He may feel tempted to leave and play for his college coach (Chip Kelly) in Las Vegas. But, that decision will likely result in a more front-line starter quality. Mariota has an ideal system, team, and style for his game.
7. Andy Dalton signs in Denver
Dalton provides the perfect mentor to Patrick Nix, the 2024 number-one pick. Dalton is the ideal spot starter and a great relief pitcher when needed.
Great post! It will be interesting to see how much of this comes true. You connected the dots so well. As an Eagles fan, I hope your last prediction comes true on Sunday!
